Bettembourg

Since 1995, LuxEnergie has been supplying heat to Bettembourg’s heat network, i.e. a total of twelve buildings, such as the town hall, the primary school, the sports centre, the swimming pool and several residential homes. During the first 20 years, the heat was produced in a cogeneration plant powered by natural gas. At the end of the contract, a variant analysis was carried out and, taking into account ecological and economic criteria, it was decided to build a new biomass energy plant.

The new energy plant was commissioned in 2018 and comprises two wood gasification CHPs and two wood pellet boilers. The two boilers supply the base and medium load and enable the use of the natural gas peak load boilers to be reduced to a minimum. Thus, approx. 85% of the annual heat energy can be covered by the renewable fuel wood pellets. The electricity produced is fed into the public grid. The total CO₂ savings compared to the heat supply from the previous natural gas-fired plant is approx. 1,600 tons per year.
